Petaluma, CA, June 14, 2004 -
Mahi Networks, an industry-leading supplier of multi-service transport and switching solutions, announced today the appointment of Tim Holzer as vice president of Global MSO Sales. Operating out of Atlanta, Georgia, Holzer’s mission is to bring the benefits of Mahi’s growing product portfolio to the cable market. Holzer and Mahi Networks will be at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, in Orlando, FL, June 15-18 at booth # 2922, and at Supercomm, in Chicago, IL, June 22-24 at booth # 24442.
Today, Mahi Networks also announced the introduction of the Mi7 Broadband Convergence Gateway (“BCG”™), which packages Mi7 packet and TDM switching, transport, and aggregation features for MSO voice, video, and data applications. The Mi7 BCG makes cost effective and scalable converged service transport a reality for MSOs, scaling from a system capacity of 10Gbps to over 2 Tb/s and exploiting the Mi7’s unique non-blocking dual mode packet/TDM switch fabric. In one network element, MSO’s can integrate legacy and next generation SONET rings, GbE and 10GbE links, and support a variety of Ethernet transport and VLAN services. In addition, MPLS LER/LSR support on the Mi7 BCG provides the intelligent control plane that is critical for service transport convergence. The Mi7 BCG can be deployed in large metro area headends and can be coupled with Mahi’s Vx7™ Automated DWDM services technology to efficiently utilize the Vx7’s wavelength capacity as services and network capacity grow in MSO networks.
“Cable operators want to bring high-quality video, voice, and data services to their subscribers, but they face intense challenges in cost-effectively delivering these new bandwidth intensive services. A common transport network that supports multiple services over a unified transport and switching infrastructure is imperative because MSOs cannot afford to build dedicated transport networks for each new service offering,” said Chris Rust, president and CEO of Mahi. “In addition to our portfolio proving its value in telco carrier markets, we are delivering the same benefits to cable operators. Mahi’s unwavering commitment to packet technologies is well suited to the data over optics vision of the MSO community. Tim Holzer has spent his whole career helping the MSOs achieve significant business success, and he has the enviable track record to drive our MSO sales efforts.”
Holzer brings more than 20 years of domestic and international sales management experience to Mahi. Most recently he served as director of VOD Sales for Midstream Technologies, and was previously vice president of sales for ADC Telecommunications, where he directed all business with Adelphia and Adelphia Business Solutions. During his tenure with ADC, Holzer held multiple positions including National Account Manager, responsible for corporate development at Charter Communications, and Senior Account Manager, SE Region, responsible for corporate and regional business for the Residential Broadband Group. Key accounts included Time Warner Communications, Comcast, Charter Communications, MediaOne and Knology Media.
“Mahi’s portfolio directly addresses the challenges that cable operators are facing to build better networks as they add voice and VOD to their service portfolios and upgrade their networks to handle these services,” said Holzer. “I’m excited to begin showing MSOs a solution that will quickly and cost-effectively streamline their operations, slash operating costs, and greatly accelerate their time to revenue when delivering services to their customers.”
Holzer is a long-standing member of Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), where he has served as the President and Chairman of the Board of the Chattahoochee Chapter in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, he is a member of NCTA and the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia.
